Teen Titans #86 Review
Right where the last issue left off, it would seem that the Wylde has possessed M’gann’s body. She goes into cardiac arrest and with the little control she had left of her body, M’gann warns the scientists to run. However, they were without time as the Wylde takes complete control of M’gann and attacks the scientists. The Wylde/M’gann delivers a fatal blow to one of the scientists, killing him instantly. The remaining scientist emits a bright light that sends the Wylde/M’gann, who realizes the scientist is not human, unconscious. The scientist hides the deceased scientists body and does not reveal to M’gann, once she resumes consciousness, the events that just occurred. They try the helmet one more time, this time successfully creating an astral projection of M’gann.
M’gann’s astral self wanders into the ocean to save Aquagirl and Bombshell after which they reopen the gateway to allow M’gann into the Wylde’s world. M’gann tries to mentally contact all the Titans. The Wylde attempts to interfere but is unsuccessful.
After Cassie and Conner reunite, they share an awkward moment followed by a dramatic kiss that really seemed to have come out of nowhere. The remaining Titans resurface.
While M’gann struggles against the Wylde as it waits for the eclipse (it is only then he can consume Raven), the Titans continue forth. They find an opening which upon entering, find themselves entangle in webs.
We transition to Raven who is encased within a mound of rocks. M’gann telepathically communicates with her and warns her that the Wylde is coming for her. The Wylde indeed shows up, now in human form, and utters the words ‘hi mom’.
Like that last, if not more, this issue was trite, lackluster and terribly written. We would’ve thought that for last couple of issues, she’d bring out her best. Were we ever wrong.
