A lot of work. Mailbag: Beast Boy & Raven as a canon couple?

I don't mind that it wasn't canon in the series. To tell you the truth it probably would have just made the couple super obvious like Rob/Star was. Would have meant the couple lost its touch.

I would have just preferred it if they had subtle not altogether obvious hints at a possible relationship. Nothing overtly obvious you know. That sorta thing just would have ruined it for me. If they went in the direction to make BB/Rae a couple I would have liked it if they kept cute little moments like the hug in spellbound and added some subtle, not entirely obvious hints. Then if they eventually decided to make it canon they would have a long, expanding history of character development between the two. Making the whole relationship much more realistic and all the more sweeter if they made it canon.

But I would not have wanted it obvious, obvious just screws with everything we stand for. So in other words if they were going to make it canon on a TV series I'd like them to follow the comic's way of doing thing. A progressive and well thought out relationship over a long expanse of time.

SL: A lot of good points. "Sweet and realistic," more to add to the list of the many outstanding traits of our couple. :)

Okay, well I would like the comics to be a Beast boy and Raven canon but not the cartoon. Because it would be the same thing everyday, or every episode. It would be full of lovey dovey crap. Not saying I don't like it, just saying people might not like that 24/7. In the comic it would be different because the characters in there are a little bit different. Everything in the cartoon isn't the same.

SL: Yep, comic and cartoon do have a lot of differences. 24/7 doesn't seem so bad, but I agree that I don't think "lovey dovey" would fit well with BBRae.

I beg to differ for the 'stay the same' part. But mind you, use BBxRae shippers put up with them not getting closer for five seasons. If WB and Dc make another season (unlikely) than I bet I could put up with it for another season.

But if they became official and had that "scene" from the Blood Jr. comic, than I would be pretty happy.

As for me wanting it to happen, maybe at a fair like the animated Terra thing. But face it, Raven would never go to a fair.

SL: Unless BB persuaded her, that would be another story. ;) Yes, we did put up with that, *beats chest twice* The scenes from the Blood Jr. arc were truly beautiful. Just casual Raven's lines a tad bit add in "Dude" to one of BB's lines and we're set.

I think, in all honesty, that it would be wonderful to see BBxRae as a true canon pairing. It would have been fun to see them kiss or have special interactions like the writers did with Robin and Starfire. Just to see them give us what we wanted would have been a dream come true...or would it?

Sure, BBxRae COULD have been canon, but where is the fun in that? Some examples: Fan fiction would have been plain and expected, and the creativity would go right down the drain. Half the fun of BBxRae is going against the norm and really using our imaginations to put them in situations that they would never been in the cartoon or even the comic.

The bottom line is that Beast Boy and Raven weren't canon because writers thought the idea of them together was outrageous. What I find outrageous is the fact that the writers couldn't expand their horizons during the cartoon's run.

SL: Agreed. Loved a lot of points made in this, Jason. A lot of quotable lines - last line to name one. ;)

I would those two to become a canon couple. I'd love to see the comic #30 to come alive on the TV screen. It would be fun to see what develops. How the two told each other how each other felt. The first kiss. Telling each other that they love each other. I'd be jumping up and down with joy.

Most BBxRae shippers would shout "YES! MAKE THEM CANON!". Well if they became canon what else would happen? Yes there is the "Oh yeah! what now BBxT shippers?!" cheer. That would be nice I have to admit. Then the total satisfaction of being right all along and knowing your favorite ship is canon! Yes, wouldn't that be awesome?

Though I would love them to be a canon couple, I would still miss all those times of watching episodes and pointing out how much they belong together. And then the ideas for fanfics? All the writers wouldn't be able to make a case where BBxRae get together, because they already did. There wouldn't be much to do after they become a couple besides just staring at their kiss picture and let's face it you'll probably save it to your documents then make an avatar or siggy about it. Just like the RobxStar shippers.
Now, I'm not saying I oppose the idea of BBxRae being canon. I'm just listing the pros and the cons.I'm not really sure which side I'm on. Let's just say I'm in between.

If BBxRae were to become canon. I would like them to get together in some odd sort of way. Why odd? Well both characters have an odd relationship with each other. I just don't picture them kissing in the rain like Robin and Starfire. That was just to corny and a sad cheap attempt at romance. Yet RobxStar shippers rejoiced. I did too of course, second TT
ship I like. Anyway, the scene should be nothing like RobxStar. I want something odd, weird, funny, cute! NOT perfect. You get what I'm saying? I mean, let's leave the chesesy romantic stuff to the fan fics and RobxStar.

I'll cut this short, since my rambling has been going on for a while. I would like a scene that would put Beastboy and Raven in an awkward state and start to question their feelings for each other. Because I don't think Raven would leap into Beastboy's arms and cry "KISS ME MY LOVE!" That's something Starfire would do, let's face it. Although seeing Raven do that would be hilarious. Remember, the BBxRae ship is not rushed. So their way of getting together should not be rushed as well. Raven would most likely shut herself in her room and think about this for a LONG time until Beastboy says something. Then eventually it will lead to their kiss scene or some sort of way they show that they want to be together.

I'm still stuck with the choice of canon or not. I still am a huge BBxRae shipper, believe me. I'm just putting more thought into this and thinking about the outcomes. And now after writing this response I have this huge need to say... "BBxRae forever!"

SL: When all else fails, a "BBxRae forever!" will suffice! *thumbs up* Indeed, the satisfaction of the TT #30 Kiss was very sweet. A lot of good points made there. Congratulations to the RobStar fans, but I don't think any of us would like BBRae to come true in the same way.

I would love for BB/Rae to eventually become canon, I mean isn't that one of the points of shipping?

But I wouldn't want BB and Raven to be all lovey-dovey, because to me that isn't Beast Boy and Raven.

In fact I would want it to be like their relationship is now, just with more dating elements.

I would expect them to still get on each others nerves and such, I mean they are still Beast Boy and Raven. Beast Boy may work harder to impress Raven or get her to show more emotion. Raven may try to get Beast Boy to be more serious.(Good luck on that!)

The point I'm trying to stress is that I would prefer them to get together but not change who they are or their love/hate sort of relationship. Though some more flirtatious comments would be hilarious.

SL: Strike 2 for "lovey-dovey." Yes, agreed. And flirtatious comments would be really entertaining, "Hey Raven," *wiggles eyebrows* "want a taste of my... tofu pie?"
