Mailbag: Why BB and Raven?
Welcome to TBRS' first mailbag. Last month's topic: why do you like BB and Raven together as a couple? For those of you who have no idea who BB and Raven, then shame on you. You're probably just another lost Marvel fan who thought this is a Marvel fan-site.
Before we get right into the mailbag, I’d like to thank you to those who replied to our first mailbag question. Seven replies in one month, that’s a good achievement for such a small community like us.
True Beast:
Well for me it’s pretty simple. Ever since the episode where Terra saved everyone and Beast boy and Terra hugged, I guess that was the straw that broke the horses back for me. I started watching Teen Titans more and more and I realized in at least each episode Beast boy and Raven always annoyed each other. So I was a huge opposite attract supporter. I had a lot of couples that didn't make since. And then I started to see moments in the episodes. They were short, and sweet. I got more into it and found out there were more like me, when this happened. I totally turned my back on Terra/Beast boy. Which was so dead, and really was never alive? And Beast boy always tried to make Raven laugh or smile that was so sweet. There relationship is so practical, never rushed. Unlike some relationships I rather not speak of...
Why I think others like it, well I'm not other, am I? But I think it might have something to do with opposites attract or just maybe the short scenes that make BB/Rae look awesome together.
SL: Funny how annoyance can turn into love, no? ”Practical, and never rushed,” yes, I think that’s always a big plus for BBrae.
SparkyX: You’re not the only one who’s a huge “opposites attract” supporter. Look around you; you are surrounded by those people (TBRS, RBSU, and DCU community to name a few)!
Al:
There's the cutesiness factor, obviously. People see them together and say "OMFGUUSH TEH KYOOT LAWLZ."
But there are others who see more to it than the cutesiness. There's a lot of chemistry between the two in the show, even if it's usually a love/hate kind of deal. But the chemistry's there. Some people see that, and they think it has potential for a deeper relationship.
'Sides...opposites attract dudes.
SL: Cutesiness + Chemistry + Opposites = BBRae = One great couple! You said it Al.
SparkyX: I never thought Al as the type of guy who likes “cutesiness”. But, you’re definitely right; the chemistry simply clicks between those two.
Kerri:
I like BB/Rae because it isn't like a sister/brother sort of thing. It's more than that. It's a cute "I'm bullying you because I like you" type of thing. Raven tries to deny her feelings because she thinks she can't love because of her father even after he is destroyed. BB/Rae is like an invention- each little part being put together bit by bit-
Relationship can't just start in an hour. It takes time.
SL: Ah yes, the classic “I bully you because I don’t know how to show that I like you” scenario. The only thing that makes bullying somehow tolerable.
SparkyX: You’re damn right. “Slow and steady,” that’s how we want it.
Chelsea :
Countless reasons:
1. They are cute together.
2. Their moments together are so sweet.
3. They need each other because they are opposites and,
You know what I'm tired so let's just put this plain and simple.......
They just belong together god damn it.
Enough explaining
SL: Short, simple, and absolutely correct. *Thumbs up*

Violet Watanabe:
I think people like BB/Rae, because it's not too obvious and 'out there', it's more like the romance that is slowly being pushed down in society-- kinda like a more mature Romeo and Juliet that doesn't involve guns and large gangs. Old fashion girl trouble with a mega-emotion trouble, and boy with no talent to charm a girl get pushed together... you gotta admit, it's so sweet, and perfectly wacky you gotta love it.
SL: Great explanation – not to mention Beast Boy reciting Shakespeare would be a hoot.

SL: Yes, they do belong together. Cute and odd - always a good combination. :)I remember watching the first episode of the Teen Titans and saying, "Well the obvious paring is Starfire and Robin." I didn't get a feeling that BB and Rae could be a couple until the episode "Final Exam." It was at the part when BB and Rae were the first two to come to the T-tower. And she heals him. I know that she would have healed anyone but I just automatically said, "Aww that is so cute! They belong together."
They are just the cutest and oddest couple. And that is the kind of couples I like to ship. The ones that don't seem to go together, but they compliment each other so well. And I think that's why others like them so much.
BB and Rae balance each other out. BB reminds Rae that it is okay to have a little fun. And Rae reminds BB that sometimes he needs to be serious. They watch out for each other. They make sure the other knows that they care about them. And any one can see that if they watch the show very carefully.
Vince:
I root for BB and Rae because they just seem to be meant for each other. Both have tragic pasts (BB and his parents deaths, doom patrol mental abuse) (Rae's lack of childhood, destruction of AZ, having Trigon for a dad, almost destroying the world, and being "creepy" and not understood.) both have had sad love lives (Terra and Malchior). They are two expressions of similar pain. Beast Boy masks his with humor, and Raven masks hers with aloofness and by distancing herself from others. If they could get together, they could help each other learn to accept their lives, and maybe balance each other to the point where their "masks" can be let down.
Just the opinion of a Rae/BB shipper that has given this question too much thought.
SL: “Opposites in the same direction ," as Alys, one of the founding sisters of RBSU (one of the forums for the ship) calls it. And do not fret my friend; it’s all part of being a shipper. ;)
